Cold House

The house is cold this morning.

As I huddle in my fuzzy bathrobe

Waiting for the hot coffee to brew

I am reminded I woke at 2am

Crushed by chest pains.

I stumbled down the stairs

Checked and corrected

Then downed 3 aspirin

Returned to bed

Feeling the insulin this time

As it entered my thigh

And fought off the elephant

For another 30 minutes

Feeling I might burst

(An over-filled balloon)

Before he shifted

And let me sleep.
