If Only

There’s a mosquito
In my room
I let it land
On a bare
Slap it dead
Then flick the body away.
I wish
My thoughts
Were so easily
Disposed of.
This wine has quieted them some
But not quite
Before any of it
I send a message out
A reply comes back.
If only
If only
If only
We could have met
In another life.
One where we get to keep each other
Instead of just dream of the days
When we held each other close.
Maybe then
These tears would stop.
