If you leave the leaves long enough
Where they lie–
A fall tapestry
At your feet
To admire–
Eventually
The universe does the raking for you;
Carries them all away
On a windy night
After an unseasonably warm day
And you’re left with time
To think of other things
Resolved by the universe
While you were busy
Basking in your ignorant bliss
Clinging to scraps
Admiring unbroken patterns
Chasing rainbows.
