Homecoming

Dear Harold,
After all these years
Since I’ve seen you
After all these years
Of letters
Of poetry
Of the dress that shouldn’t have fit
(But fit perfectly)
Of unconditional friendship
After so many other years
Of existing apart
Searching for ourselves
And finding each other
Again and again
All you had to say was
“I’m moving back”
And everything
Came into view:
Like cresting a steep hill
The horizon exploded before me
Rolling hills drenched in sunlight
And I knew
Our time has come
Before you even said the words
My heart knew
I was waiting
For you.
“I
Remember you
I do.”

Love always,

Julie
