When you dream of dead relatives

Or dead former relatives

To be accurate

They both seem so

And vibrant

And happy

That’s it’s not until later

When you’re recalling the details

(Her curls were softer, the way she stood up so straight)

That you even remember

They’re dead at all.

Even in your dream, though

They aren’t looking for you;

They wandered into your office seeking out a co-worker,

Someone they never knew.

I can’t help but wonder

What they meant to relay.
